On April 4, 2024, Alterra Mountain Company, owner of the Ikon Pass, announced that it added yet another resort to its ever-growing lineup. For the 2024/25 winter season, Ikon Pass holders can ski one of the world’s most iconic and historic ski areas: St. Moritz in Switzerland.
The resort is located in the upper Engadin Valley of the Swiss Alps. It became famous for hosting the iconic 1928 and 1948 Winter Olympics and five FIS Ski World Championships. It is the sixth European ski destination to join the Ikon ranks. St. Moritz has nine different ski areas, and Ikon pass holders will have 7 days to explore all of them next year.
“We are thrilled to offer more of Switzerland as we welcome St. Moritz and invite the Ikon Pass community to discover all that these incredible nine areas within St. Moritz have to offer,” Erik Forsell, the Chief Marketing Officer of Alterra Mountain Company, said in a press release.
Adding St. Moritz to the Ikon lineup brings the total number of destinations on the pass to 59. Many of those are renowned for exclusivity and luxury offerings — like Aspen, Deer Valley, Jackson Hole, Zermatt, and Sun Valley.
St. Moritz is on par with all of those resorts. Sharing the title of the most exclusive ski resort in the Alps with Gstaad, it boasts 38,301 square acres of skiable terrain between nine ski areas. It also includes 87 World Cup-standard slopes and pistes. It is among the region’s largest and most varied ski resorts.
St. Moritz: Luxury Resort, Ski Culture Icon
St. Moritz claims to be the birthplace of winter tourism. In 1864, a hotel pioneer Caspar Badrutt invited a group of summer guests to return during the winter. If they didn’t enjoy themselves, he offered to reimburse them for their stay. The tourists came back and fell in love; thus, winter tourism was born, according to St. Moritz.
Since then, the resort has been an icon of ski culture. In the last 160 years, it’s hosted two Olympic Games and five Alpine Ski World Championships, and it’s annually home to the ladies’ Audi FIS Ski World Cup.

The nine ski areas encompassed within St. Moritz are Corviglia/Piz Nair, Corvatsch/Furtschellas, Diavolezza/Lagalb, Pontresina/Languard, Zuoz, Samedan, La Punt, Maloja, and S-chanf.
“From the picturesque slopes to the incredible food to the Swiss alpine culture, St. Moritz is the new destination to add to your bucket list,” said Forsell.
